Relationship

I have been blessed to be the mom of three wonderful daughters; it has been such a rewarding experience for me. I believe with all my heart that the most important thing a mom needs is a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and then pass on that importance to her children. I always encourage moms that being a mom is the most important job in the whole world, God has given us children to take care of, to love, to nurture, He has entrusted them in to our care. We need to see that they really are on loan to us, that they really belong to God. I believe it is so important to invest in our children, to take time to listen to them, to encourage them, to pray with them, to teach them Scripture, to help them discover who they are in Christ. That it is important to build our homes on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ. I know that I made mistakes with my children and messed up but the most important thing was always going back to Jesus, showing His love and His forgiveness. When we went into full time ministry our children were 9, 7, and 4. From the beginning, we included our children in ministry things, being in home missions our girls helped me in the nursery, helped with the worship part of service (God blessed them with singing abilities and playing of musical instruments), they went to the nursing home with us and on home visits. We were careful to never talk negative about people in the church. We taught them to serve the Lord with gladness and that it was a joy and privilege to serve the Lord. We always stressed that just because their dad was a preacher that wasn't a guarantee to them of getting in to heaven, we stressed the importance of them having a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

As a family we took time to laugh and play games together and I always tried to do special days in our home as well, we would have theme meals or dress up dinners. We would make "time gift coupons" for each other. I'd put notes in their school lunches, we read a lot together as a family and we shared our thoughts with each other. For me it is such a joy to see how through the years my girls have grown and developed their relationship with the Lord, and how they have made application of the Word in their lives and to see that they are loving and serving the Lord.

In order for us to make a spiritual impact on our children and those around us, we must be women of integrity. Integrity means to posses and steadfastly adhere to high moral principles, the state of being undivided, the state of being sound.

Psalm 86:11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

Unite in this Scripture verse means to be joined, not divided. Let our hearts be wholly set on the Lord. Our lives must be lived for the Lord so we can lead our children to HIM.
